Coach Terry knows his backhand like the back of his hand, so let’s get this Indoor Recess party started–Net Generation style!
Hi, I'm Coach Terry. You call me Coach Terry. And you can call this Indoor Recess: Net Generation edition. That's right. Today's special is an extra fresh serving of those fuzzy little green balls we hold so dear. I'll get emotional if I think about it too much. That's how much I love tennis! And you know me. There's nothing that pulls at my heart strings and hamstrings more than the love of the game. Ironically, tennis was originally a medieval indoor sport that was later modernized by Walter Clopton Wingfield, when he said, hey, y'all. Let's take this back and forth ball-punching party outside. He must have had a vitamin D deficiency. Maybe somebody burned a bag of popcorn and stunk up the whole place. Phew! Either way, let's give a big thanks to old Walton for what we now call tennis. It's really the best, but kind of funny that, today, we're taking our favorite sport back inside for an Indoor Recess session for the history books. We've got balloon tennis, Blazer Fresh, Madison Keys and a surprise superstar in a grand finale that will have you saying, hey, I can do that! Yes, you can, my friend. Yes, you can! So grab your favorite hydration liquids, a racket, and a buddy. That's right. It's time to hit the ball, y'all! Woo! Hit the ball, y'all! Woo! Yeah, it's tennis time. Are you ready to make a racket? [MUSIC PLAYING] Come on, y'all. Come on, y'all. Get up on your feet and hit the ball. Serve it up, rally back. Grab that racket, thwack, thwack. Come on, y'all. Come on, y'all. Get up on your feet and hit the ball. Hit it. Serve it up, rally back. Grab that racket, thwack, thwack. Hey, [INAUDIBLE]. Yeah? Grab your racket, man. I got it. Let's get it. Toss it up, serve, nice. Volley, slam. Slam on it. Volley, slam. 15-love. Love means zero. Toss it up, serve-- forehand. Forehand. Backhand. Backhand. Forehand. Forehand. Forehand. Drop shot. Drop shot. Backhand. Backhand. Forehand. Forehand. Backhand. Backhand. Drop shot. Drop shot. Smash! 15-all. I need a fresh ball. Here you go. Come on, come on! Now, toss it up, serve. Slice for some backspin lob. Overhead, roll for some topspin lob. Overhead. Hey, nice job! 30-15. You know what I mean! Turn it up now. Toss it up, serve. Serve. Fault. Ah, try again. Toss it up, serve. Serve. Another ball, 30-all. Come on, y'all. Come on, y'all. Get up on your feet and hit the ball. Serve it up, rally back. Grab that racket, thwack, thwack. Come on, y'all. Come on, y'all. Get up on your feet and hit the ball. Hit it. Serve it up. Rally back. Grab that racket, thwack, thwack. Toss it up. Let's go! Serve, forehand, half volley, smash. Out of bounds, 30-40. Stop the game. My tennis shoes are dirty. Brush, brush, brush, brush, brush. Clean! Toss it up, serve. Backhand. Backhand. Forehand. Forehand. Backhand. Backhand. Forehand. Forehand. Slice for some backspin, forehand with some topspin. Slow mo! Volley, smash. Oh! Come on, y'all. Come on, y'all. Get up on your feet and hit the ball. Serve it up, rally back. Grab that racket, thwack, thwack. Come on, y'all. Come on, y'all. Get up on your feet and hit the ball. Hit it! Serve it up, rally back. Grab that racket, thwack, thwack. Let's get it. Blazer Fresh. That game was fire. Hey, you saw that backhand? You see my forehand? That was really something special, GoNoodlers. I mean, wow-wee! That was truly fresh. Now that you're all warmed up, let's serve up an ace with tennis champion, Madison Keys. Get those feet ready. She's fast! Woo-wee! Fast feet! Hey, there. I'm Madison Keys. In tennis, you need to be fast on your feet. I'm going to hit some tennis balls at you. And you're going to use your fast feet to shuffle to the left or to the right to hit them. Let's do this. Move it! Move those feet. Nice! Keep going. You've got this. Fast feet! Faster feet! Yes, nice! Good footwork! Keep going. Yes, great job-- fast feet! Move! Just a little more. You're doing it! Yes, those were some fast feet. Way to move those feet! I couldn't quite keep up 'cause yesterday was leg day. But I did get a head start on blowing up these balloons for our next activity, balloon tennis. Never played before? That's OK. Just ask a grown-up for some balloons and a racket. That's all you need, which is another reason why tennis is simply the best. You can play it anywhere if you get creative. Just don't break anything. And watch out for the kitty cat. Meow! Ooh, sorry, kitty. Woo-hoo! Hi, I'm Leah Friedman with USTA Community Tennis. Here's a great activity that you can do in your home. It's called balloon tennis. It works on starting a rally and getting comfortable with a racket. You ready, Jakey? All right, let me see you hit that balloon up. Whoa, nice and high, Jakey. Nice, keep it going. Awesome, one more. Good! [MUSIC PLAYING] You can go to flipping your hand from palm up to palm down. Nice! Next with balloon tennis, you can go to rallying with a partner. Good. Nice work, Jakey. One more. [MUSIC PLAYING] Remember, when playing tennis in your home, keep it safe and don't break anything. That a-way, team. Let's keep the ball rolling just like a perfect drop-shot from our friend Sloane Stephens. We'll see her just a minute. But first, I'm here to tell you that the ball is in your court! What are you waiting for? This rally is on! The ball is in your court! [MUSIC PLAYING] Yeah, ladies and gentlemen. Let's get it. It's tennis time. You got your racket. Woo, net generation, Blazer Fresh! Yo, this is your reality. You want to master up a sport? Yes. You can change your whole mentality. The ball is in your court. Yeah, you can run the game. It doesn't matter if you're tall or short. Nah, ace is your middle name. The ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court. Where's the ball? The ball is in your court. Heads up! Yeah, sometimes it's hard to be a kid, so many slips and mistakes. Ouch! But you're going to miss every single shot that you don't take. Take that shot. So take a swing, try it out. You command your own fate. Take a chance every day. Don't hesitate to make a play. Keep your eye on the ball. Come on, volley back, y'all. It's never, ever going to be too late to beat. Yo, this is your reality. You're the master of a sport. You can change your whole mentality. The ball is in your court! Yeah, you can run the game. It doesn't matter if you're tall or short. Ace is your middle name. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. Where's the ball? The ball is in your court. There it is, here. There's not a single situation where you don't have a choice. Choose wisely! You get to use your mind, use your body, use your muscles, use your voice. The more you sweat, the more you're going to get. Don't stop, don't stop. You're not done yet! There's a tremendous consensus that tennis and fitness make a person excellent at getting down to business. Yo, this is your reality. You're a master of the sport. You can change your whole mentality. The ball is in your court! Yeah, you can run the game. It doesn't matter if you're tall or short. Ace is your middle. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. Where's the ball? Yeah, you can run the game. It doesn't matter if you're tall or short. Ace is your middle name. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. The ball is in your court, the ball is in your court. Wait, where's the ball? The ball is in your court. Blazer Fresh! It's all love, it's all love. Net generation! That's until I score. But you do know that the ball is in your court. It's your serve. Wow-wee! There just ain't no party like a Blazer Fresh tennis party. Am I right? Now, let's get back to practice with our next video, the lobster trap! Now, I know what you're thinking. And the answer is, no, I did not make the mistake of bringing a mariachi band of live lobsters to Indoor Recess again, never again. A lobster trap is a special game to help keep the game strong with a partner. Now, let's do it! Today, we're working on lobster trap. Lobster trap works on your ready position, your contact point, and your swing path. We're using a ladder as a barrier or a net. Be creative. Find your own materials. Bounce, trap, good. Perfect, do that one again. Good, one more. [MUSIC PLAYING] Once you get the lobster trap down, instead of throwing it back, try tapping it back. [MUSIC PLAYING] No court? No problem. When making your own space, the only limit is your imagination. [MUSIC PLAYING] For more activities like this, check out netgeneration.com. Yippee, Skippy! I'm so proud of all you out there. I just love y'all and this game so much. But we have to close it out because it's too much for me to bear. I'll start to get emotional. And then, you know I got to see those feelings through to the end. You got to feel your feelings to their deepest depths. And right now, my love runs as deep as 1,000 tennis courts. Oh, boy, I feel a hurricane of happy tears on the way! I got to go. But I'll see you next time. And remember, tennis is for everyone. So, play tennis! Take us out, Sloane Stephens. Woo hoo! What's up, Sloane? Sloane Stephens! Hey, ARNSTAR. What are you up to? [MUSIC PLAYING] I'm just messing around with some ideas. But I bet you never seen moves like this before. ARN, I got moves you can't even imagine. Oh, yeah? Like what? I could do any of those moves. I don't know if you can handle it. This ain't foursquare. This is tennis. Well, let me see something, then. Throw it up in the air and hit it with a whack, 100 miles an hour. Yeah, I can do that. I can shuffle. I can volley. You'll be sweating if you saw me. That's a baseline fact. Yeah, I can do that. But Sloane, let me ask. Can you whoa? Can you flow? Can you go like this? Yeah, I can do that. I can whoa. I can flow. I can do it like a pro. Better check my stats. Yeah, I can do that. I can do that. I can do that. Let me, let me-- I can do that. I can do that. So keep a tally on my rallies. I can rally all day. Now, can you rally back? Yeah, I can do that. I can rally on the blacktop, concrete, any court, hard grass play. You know I can do that. Can you ace three serve like, quack, quack, quack? He's a triple ace attack. Yeah, I can do that. Can you Milly Rock left, stop, Milly Rock, right, and scoop it to the side? Yeah, I can do that. Can you lob it? Yeah. Can you drop shot? Yeah. Can you Harlem Shake? Yeah. Can you [INAUDIBLE]? You know it! Yeah, I can do that. Yeah, I can do that. I can do-- I can break dance, break down. Shuffle left with it. Shuffle right with it. Shuffle left with it. And shuffle right with it. Charge a net, and swing, swing, swing, swing! OK, Sloane, you got some moves. I see you! You too, ARN. What do you say we fuse these moves together, though? How about that? Let's do it. Turn it up. Get it open to the front. Get it open to the back. Swing your racket like that. Yeah, I can do that. Now, shake it to the left and shake it to the right. Do the baseline slide. Yeah, I can do that. [INAUDIBLE] Swing it backhand, right now, Milly like that. Yeah, I can do that. Now, freestyle, go wild. Don't forget to style! Game, set, match. Hey, hey! I can do that. Yeah, I can do that. I can do that. Yeah, I can do that. Oh, I can do that. Yeah, I can do that. Oh, I could, I could-- Yeah, I can do that. Come on! I told you I could do that. All right. Great. We're doing it again!
