How to! How to make butter. You'll need a half pint of heavy whipping cream, a large Mason jar with a lid, a strainer, plastic wrap and a piece of bread or some crackers. Get ready to become a chef and a scientist like me as we transform a liquid into a solid. Step one, pour the heavy whipping cream into the Mason jar and close the lid. Make sure it only fills the jar about halfway. The cream is filled with microscopic fat globules. They're like tiny balloons filled with fat. Step two, shake and shake and shake and shake. Then, shake some more. When the cream gets really thick, like whipped cream, you're almost done. But not yet. So keep shaking. As you shake, those fat balloons smashed together and their skin breaks, releasing the fat. Step three, shake until the cream separates and the jar contains a solid lump of butter and a liquidy milk. If you shake enough, all of the freed fat sticks together, forming one giant lump of milk fat called butter. Step four, pour the contents of the jar into the strainer and strain out the milk, leaving only the solid lump of butter. Step five, remove the lump of butter, wrap it in plastic wrap, and put it in the fridge until you're ready to eat it. Step six, spread it on some bread or crackers and enjoy.
