McPufferson realizes that there is wisdom in his "gut," as well as in his heart.
Hello, Super Noodlers. McPufferson here. Great seeing you again. As always, I've been bouncing off the wall all morning as I'm super excited to talk to you about paying attention to our thoughts that come from our brains, but also paying attention to our guts, which is also known as our belly brain. And it has messages for us too. Sounds crazy, right? Our belly brain is a bunch of nerves, like nervousness detectors. Their job is to help us be safe. Cool, huh? It helps us hesitate, be safe, and can also protect us. If we're paying attention, our signals from our bellies tell us how to choose. Our belly tells us when to pause, reevaluate, be careful before we proceed, or at least proceed with some caution. Just a few nights ago, I was getting ready for bed, when I heard a loud noise coming from my library. Blamm! I had no idea what could have caused that noise. Then I heard another noise. Kaboom! I wanted to go investigate, but my belly was telling me to go hide under my bed covers because it's my safe place. Another loud noise Babam! My brain was telling me I needed to get my flashlight. I was so scared. My brain was also telling me to be smart, brave, and to go slowly. But my gut was telling me that danger was lurking just around the corner. Then I heard the library door creak open. I had the choice to either move forward, or run back to my bed. My gut then told me to turn around, ignore the noise, stay safe. My flashlight was shaking, when all of a sudden I saw a pair of glowing eyes, low to the ground, staring right back at me, followed by the cutest meow. False alarm! Not a huge, scary thing. But it was an intruder. It was Squeaky Laroo's cat Senator Pete. Apparently, he got inside when I forgot to shut the front door earlier in the day. He'd been knocking books off the shelves in the library. Oh, fun fact. Did you know cats can jump five times their height? Squeaky came over to get Senator Pete. And I chose to go to bed after all of the excitement. I love excitement. But I also love to sleep. OK, my friends, you know what time it is.
